| An
Issue That Won't Go Away: In
March, 2006 an image I created for
my company was
stolen off our corporate website by a
candlemaker in Indiana named Angela Ledcke who was using it to sell competing
products on multiple commercial websites
she owned. It took seven months and two
Cease and Desist letters before we
regained control of our image, but once
it was finally removed from her
websites we accepted her apology for
having stolen it and promptly forgot about the whole
matter.
Normally a successfully resolved
episode of copyright
infringement wouldn't attract much
attention. But no such luck. Even a
laid-back old broad like me has to
eventually accept the fact that some
people simply enjoy controversy and sadly it
appears I've inadvertently crossed paths
with one of them.
Over the past year Angela has
repeatedly taken actions to keep the
issue alive and has put
considerable effort into casting us in
the role of her persecutor because we
publicly acknowledged the copyright
infringement. We let her threats of
legal action or revealing unspecified
"skeletons in our closet"
slide by without much comment, but even
my legendary patience snapped with her recent
allegation that this site is somehow "cyberstalking" her,
presumably because a small number
of visitors have clicked through to her
site from this one following a link Angela herself
placed in our guestbook.
For the
record: nobody connected to this website
has any interest in stalking anyone. We
don't know Angela, have never met her,
and have no association with her
whatsoever beyond the initial copyright
infringement issue.
To use an old Southern expression
"that girl ain't right" but I
do have to admit she has impeccable
taste in photography. It's just
unfortunate her taste seems to favor
photography stolen from me.
